Tom Smith 4 Points Ride (draft)

1 man, riding 2,500 km in just 7 days..

Starting on July 16th 2022, brave 40tuder Andy Peterson plans to cycle unsupported between the four compass points of the GB mainland in just seven days.

The reason? To raise vital awareness of colon cancer, and to raise £100,000 to establish a full time research fellowship post at St. Mark's Hospital in memory of rugby legend and 40tude ambassador Tom Smith.

"Tom Smith was a Scottish rugby and British & Irish Lions hero," explains Andy. "My own father was a hero to me. Both Tom and my dad died from colon cancer.  They both ignored the initial signs of the cancer and by the time they were diagnosed, it was too late. This matters to everyone as colon (bowel) cancer is the UK's biggest cancer killer of non-smokers.

"When I did the Twickenham-Murrayfield charity ride in 2019, I got to know Tom.  During lockdown, Tom and I were working on a ride to raise £100,000 to fund a permanent research fellowship into the genetics of colon cancer. Tom was undergoing treatment for colon cancer at the time. He was only 50 years old when he died in April - what a tragic loss." 

Early diagnosis is vital.  Please be aware of the symptoms and act on them; take up any testing offered to you and, if you can, consider enhanced screening (more below).
