What screening is available if you want to go privately?

If you wish to arrange screening privately, the following are some options:

1.    High-quality CT Colonography is a less invasive alternative to Colonoscopy with the same accuracy, a milder laxative and the ability to look at the other organs in the abdomen and pelvis outside the colon, including the appendix.

2.   Colonoscopy - where a thin tube with a camera inside is passed into your bottom to look for signs of bowel cancer.

Further details about private colonoscopy can be found at: https://www.thelondonclinic.co.uk/treatments/colonoscopy

3.   FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) home stool testing services:

  • Purchase an enhanced FIT testing service from boweltesting.com You will complete an online survey after which a test kit will be sent to you in the post. Once you have collected the sample you will send it by post to its laboratory. Within a week you will be notified of the results and, if positive, a St. Mark’s consultant will advise you on what to do next. If your test is positive, you will be referred for a further bowel test - either a CTC or colonoscopy

  • Alternatively a QFIT test is available from The Doctors Laboratory www.tdlpathology.com
